Guidecentral is a fun and simple way to discover DIY ideas, learn new skills, meet amazing Makers who share your passions, and even create your own DIY projects.
How much does it cost?
It’s absolutely free. You can get it on the App Store, Google Play, Kindle Store, or visit our website. On Google Play, you’ll also find the Guidecentral app collection for Android - a separate app for each popular Guidecentral category - available for free.
Is Guidecentral compatible with all mobile devices?
The app is compatible with all Apple devices running iOS 7.0 or later, and all Android smartphones running version 4.0 or later, as well as the Kindle Fire. If your mobile device doesn’t fit these requirements, you can open your mobile device browser and visit our mobile website.
Do I need to register?
If you download the Guidecentral app or go to the website, you can browse any of our projects at any time, no need to register! If you want to create your own guide, like or comment on a project, or follow your favorite Makers to keep up with their DIYs, you will need to register using your email, Facebook or Twitter accounts.
What's the Guidecentral Maker Program?
The Maker Program lets you earn money by sharing your DIY projects. This program is about you, the Maker, and we want Guidecentral to be a stepping stone for you to grow your DIY business and reach more people around the globe with your skills.
What are the benefits of becoming a Maker?
In addition to earning for every new guide approved and bit more each time someone in the community likes your projects, becoming a Maker will give you an elevated profile within the Guidecentral community. Your picture will be adorned with a Maker Badge and your guides can be featured on the homepage of our apps and website. You also have the opportunity to be included in the Featured Makers section of our homepage and the apps. Want to know more? Visit our Maker Program page!
Who can join the Maker Program?
Anyone can be a Guidecentral Maker! You just need to be at least 18 years old. Follow these three simple steps to get started:
- Sign up to Guidecentral using your email, Facebook or Twitter account.
- Go to “Create New Guide” and upgrade to a Maker profile.
- Submit a new guide. When our Editorial team approves your guide, you’ll be officially a Maker.
How much money can I earn?
There is no limit with the Maker Program's social bonus! You will earn up to $4 for every approved guide and you will receive a bit of extra cash every time someone likes one of your guides. As long as you keep creating and promoting your guides, you will keep earning!
How much is the upfront payment?
You can earn up to $4 for every new guide, but please note the upfront payment is not guaranteed and some guides aren’t paid for at all. Our editorial team reviews all guides and makes decisions based on our guidelines and their best judgement.
How does the social bonus work - do I earn a fixed amount per like?
Not really. While the social bonus helps you earn a bit of cash for every like, the amount isn’t fixed and other variables are also taken in consideration. Our social bonus algorithm looks at social interactions, as well as engagement metrics like number of followers, guide views and being chosen by our editorial team to feature your profile and guides. We strongly recommend reading this blog post for more details.
When do I receive the money?
You can manage your earnings from your Guidecentral profile and withdraw your money once you’ve reached a minimum of $100. The funds will be transferred directly to your PayPal account.
How can I get a Maker / Designer Badge?
Maker Badges and instructions on how to use them are available here. Designer Badges are limited to Makers who participate in the Designer Program and available upon request only. Contact us if you are interested in getting a Designer Badge or learning more about the program.
How do I create a new guide?
It’s easy! Go to “Create New Guide” on our website or app (if you are an iPhone user look for the create guide icon). You’ll be able to add a title, take or import photos and insert captions and supplies as you create your project. Be sure to check out our Guidelines to learn more about creating an outstanding guide that our community will love and share.
How long before my guide is reviewed?
It’s usually between 12 and 48 hours but, it has to be said, we’ve been overwhelmed with the amount of guides submitted in recent months and we sometimes experience delays. We are constantly improving our features and technology to reduce our turnaround times. Trusted Makers are a good example, their guides get automatically approved minutes after being submitted. We strongly encourage you to follow our content guidelines and please contact us if you’d like to be considered a Trusted Maker.
What are the different Maker statuses?
We have three Maker statuses: Maker, Published Maker, and Trusted Maker.
What is the difference between a Maker, Published Maker, and Trusted Maker?
|Maker||Published Maker||Trusted Maker|
|Upfront payment (up to $4)||✔||✔||✔|
|Webpage for your guide||✔||✔||✔|
|Eligible for featuring||✔||✔||✔|
|Video guide on YouTube||✔||✔||✔|
|Guides auto-approved & paid for||✘||✘||✔|
This is the default status for all Makers who join the Maker Program and have published a guide on Guidecentral. As a Maker, you have the following key benefits:
- You have an elevated profile within Guidecentral. Your profile is adorned with a Maker Program badge and you have access to different badges to add to your website or blog.
- Your DIYs earn you money through the upfront payment and the social bonus.
- You will have a unique webpage and URL for each of guides so you can share your work easily through email, social media, and your personal blog.
- Your published guides are created as shareable videos on our YouTube channel, providing you with a new, powerful way to promote your content.
- Your profile and your guides have a chance to be featured in a special section of our apps and website.
Makers are eligible for promotion to a Published Maker status once they have a minimum of five approved guides and have demonstrated an understanding of our content guidelines. Published Makers have the same benefits as Makers, plus the added benefit of having their guides published automatically.
Their guides are published automatically upon submission and are reviewed by our editorial team within 24 to 48 hours after being published. Earnings - the upfront payment plus the social bonus earnings received between when the guide was published and approved - are paid once the guide has been reviewed and approved by our editorial team. If the guide is rejected, our team will unpublish the guide and simply send it back for editing. It’s important to note that any earnings made from the social bonus between the time the guide was published and reviewed will be removed if the guide is unpublished.
A Trusted Maker is a Maker who cares deeply about their projects, invests in great photography and production quality, and makes conscious efforts to promote their guides on and off Guidecentral. Published Makers are eligible for promotion to a Trusted Maker status after demonstrating a clear understanding of our content guidelines over time, consistently creating high-quality guides, in terms of both projects and content, and proving to be an active community member. Trusted Makers have the same benefits as Makers and their guides are auto-published. They are also whitelisted, meaning their guides are automatically approved and paid for upon submission. Trusted Makers’ guides are still reviewed by our editorial team, and may removed, along with any associated earnings, if they fail to meet our guidelines.
